Merck Alum Andrew Royal Dies After Long Battle with Parkinson's
Andrew B. Royal Jr., affectionately called 'Buddy', passed away on July 19, 2026, after a courageous battle with Parkinson's Disease.
Royal was born on September 24, 1959, in Newark, New Jersey, to Ethelene and Andrew B. Royal, M.D. He grew up in Montclair, New Jersey, graduating from Montclair Academy and later attending Colgate University before transferring to Fisk University in Nashville, Tennessee.
Royal had a successful career with Merck & Co., where he worked as an Account Executive and Executive Professional Representative. He traveled extensively throughout the country, received numerous awards for excellence, and formed close friendships during his time at the company.
In 1998, Royal moved to Phoenix, Arizona, where he fell in love with the beauty of the Southeastern United States and purchased a home adjacent to the Desert Ridge golf course. He enjoyed outdoor activities such as camping, tennis, skiing, motorcycling, snow and jet skiing, and playing golf.
Royal's loved ones include his two sisters, Margaret Royal and Kathleen Royal, as well as several nieces, nephews, and cousins. In a heartfelt message, his niece Sara Pit wrote: 'If my parting has left a void, then fill it with remembered joy, a friendship shared, a laugh, a kiss... Be not burdened with times of sorrow, I wish you the sunshine of tomorrow.'
