Merck Raises Long-term Revenue Target to $70 Billion Amid Pipeline Progress
At the Wells Fargo Healthcare Conference, Merck presented its growth plan, highlighting progress in its pipeline and acknowledging challenges ahead. The company has raised its long-term revenue target to more than $70 billion, up from about $50 billion a year earlier. This increase reflects successful product launches, therapeutic area progress, and recent business development activity.
The oncology pipeline remains the main growth engine for Merck, led by sac-TMT and the interleukin-2 fusion protein INT. The company sees room for combinations with PD-1 and VEGF therapies, including WELIREG and sac-TMT. Merck also discussed eye disease programs MK-3000 and MK-8748, which could offer complementary options for doctors.
In immunology, Merck highlighted TL1A's successful phase 3 ulcerative colitis trial, positioning it as a highly effective and safe biologic option. LIPFENDRA, an oral PCSK9 inhibitor, has shown strong early scripts and commercial feedback, with peak revenue potential reaching the multi-billion-dollar range.
