Merck Scores Landmark Victory with mRNA Cancer Vaccine Trial
Merck has achieved a significant milestone in its oncology efforts with the successful Phase 3 trial of an individualized mRNA-based cancer vaccine, INTerpath-001. When combined with KEYTRUDA, this regimen demonstrated improved recurrence-free survival and distant metastasis-free survival for patients with resected melanoma.
The data from this joint trial between Merck and Moderna mark the first positive Phase 3 outcome for an individualized mRNA cancer vaccine in a major disease area. This achievement adds a new potential pillar to Merck's oncology portfolio, which is already bolstered by its immuno-oncology franchise.
INTerpath-001's success also extends Merck's reach in earlier stage melanoma treatment, where the goal is to reduce recurrence and support deeper penetration of KEYTRUDA use. If regulators approve this regimen, it could become a significant contributor to Merck's oncology revenue mix.
