Merck Soars as mRNA Cancer Treatment Shows Promising Results
Merck's stock price has been soaring due to positive results from its innovative new drug pipeline. The company's shares closed at $152.55 on the New York Stock Exchange, up 2.39% from the previous trading day. This marks a new 52-week high for Merck.
The rise can be attributed to the success of phase 3 clinical trials for its mRNA cancer treatment, Intismeran Autogen. In combination with Keytruda, an immuno-oncology drug developed by Merck, the treatment showed significant results in prolonging the survival period without recurrence or metastasis in high-risk melanoma patients.
Global investment bank Morgan Stanley has raised its investment opinion on Merck to Overweight and set a target price of $179. Analyst Terrence Flynn predicted that Merck's next-generation new drug pipeline and capital allocation strategy will grow further, dispelling market concerns about the impending patent expiration of Keytruda.
Merck is also making waves with its oral PCSK9 inhibitor, Lipendra, which has been approved by the US FDA. This treatment for hypercholesterolemia and heterozygous familial hypercholesterolemia patients marks a significant milestone for Merck in the market.
