Meta's Next Headset Looks Like Google's Aura XR Glasses

The latest news from Meta's VR department suggests that their next headset will bear a striking resemblance to Google's Aura XR glasses. According to an asset found in a Quest firmware update, Project Phoenix is shaping up to be a glasses-like form factor with nose pads and sensors on the outside of the temples and underneath the arms.

The leak doesn't reveal much about the capabilities of Project Phoenix, but it does show how prescription lenses are applied to the headset. One thing that isn't pictured is the separate compute puck to which Project Phoenix is expected to be tethered. Previous leaks have suggested that this puck will be roughly phone-sized with some added heft.

There's still much that remains a mystery about Project Phoenix, including what Meta envisions for its use and how it will function. The headset is expected to use XR passthrough instead of AR like Snap's Specs glasses or Meta's Project Orion.
