Methanol-to-Jet Tech to Boost Sustainable Aviation Fuel Production
Rajesh Gattupalli, President of Honeywell Technologies UOP, believes that methanol-to-jet (MTJ) technology can help scale sustainable aviation fuel (SAF). MTJ broadens the feedstock base, allowing for more flexibility in producing SAF.
Currently, most SAF production uses Fischer-Tropsch (FT) synthesis, which requires a specific type of feedstock. In contrast, MTJ can use a wider range of feedstocks, including non-petroleum based materials like renewable methanol.
This increased flexibility is crucial for scaling up SAF production to meet growing demand. As the aviation industry strives to reduce its carbon footprint, MTJ could play a significant role in achieving this goal.
