Metro Detroit Man Dies After Lightning Strike Near Walt Disney World

A 20-year-old man from metro Detroit has died after being struck by lightning in Florida.

Matthew Jenkins, of Shelby Township, was on a path behind a hotel at 700 Bloom Street in Osceola County, Florida, when he collapsed due to the lightning strike at 6:25 p.m. Tuesday.

Jenkins had recently moved to Florida to participate in the Disney College Program, which is a paid internship that allows college students to work at Disney theme parks.

A spokesperson for Disney said they were 'deeply saddened' by Jenkins' death and described him as part of their Disney community.
