Miami Airport Grounded After Boeing 767 Cargo Plane Overruns Runway
Miami International Airport was forced to shut down all runways and taxiways after a Boeing 767 cargo plane overrun on September 6, 2026. The incident occurred when an Amazon Prime Air Boeing 767-300 overran the runway after landing at approximately 2 p.m. local time.
The aircraft had arrived from San Juan, Puerto Rico, and was operated by 21 Air on behalf of Amazon Prime Air. It is unclear what caused the plane to overrun the runway.
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) said it would investigate the incident. The Miami-Dade Fire Rescue department deployed over 60 emergency response units to the scene, as the aircraft caught fire and struck several vehicles near the airport.
