Miami Cargo Plane Crash Kills Five as Investigation Begins
A Boeing 767 cargo plane operated by Amazon Prime crashed at Miami International Airport on Sunday, resulting in the deaths of at least five people and injuring several others.
The aircraft, which was originally built to carry passengers, had been converted to a cargo plane in 2015. It overran the runway around 2 p.m. after arriving from San Juan, Puerto Rico, and struck several vehicles before bursting into flames.
Miami-Dade County officials reported that five people were killed, three critically injured, and two others hospitalized with less severe injuries. The pilot and copilot were trapped in the plane, while some individuals were trapped inside vehicles at the scene.
The National Transportation Safety Board has launched an investigation into the incident, which is being led by Chairwoman Jennifer Homendy. Amazon spokesperson Kelly Nantel expressed concern for the safety and well-being of those involved.
