Miami Immigration Court Switches Back to In-Person Hearings
Starting September 8th, all migrants with pending cases before the Immigration Court in Miami will have to attend their hearings in person.
This change eliminates the option for virtual attendance via Cisco WebEx, which had been available since the COVID-19 pandemic.
The new policy applies exclusively to those under the jurisdiction of Miami and affects both preliminary and substantive hearings.
Immigration attorney José A. Guerrero warned that missing a hearing can result in an order of deportation in absentia, emphasizing the importance of verifying appointment dates.
According to data from TRAC, 68% of deportation orders issued against Cubans in June were for individuals who failed to appear.
