Mickey Mouse Brings Joy to Kids at Free Sports Clinic in Chicago
On Saturday, Disney Jr., ESPN, and the Chicago Park District partnered for 'Let Kids Play!', a free sports clinic at the ComEd Rec Center. The event aimed to introduce young children to various athletic activities, including soccer, boxing, baseball, and gymnastics.
The event welcomed kids aged 3-7, with organizers hoping to spark joy and build confidence among participants. Lisa Vasquez, senior manager of Disney Entertainment Corporate Social Responsibility, stated that the goal was 'to take the best of all that we have at Walt Disney and ignite and inspire and bring joy to kids.'
Parents praised the event for getting their children active and off screens. Deshaun Dotson noted that it brings out athleticism in kids who often hide behind tablets or phones.
The event also addressed a significant barrier to youth sports: cost. Every Kid Sports, a nonprofit partner, works to reduce obstacles by providing resources for parents to access sports programs.
