Microsoft 365 Search Disruptions Persist as Company Works on Full Recovery
Microsoft's Microsoft 365 service has been experiencing disruptions for two days, affecting search functions across various services including Exchange Online, SharePoint, OneDrive, Teams, and Microsoft 365 Copilot.
The incident began on August 31 at 11:55 a.m. UTC when Microsoft started investigating an increase in user reports of Exchange Online problems.
A few hours later, the company identified a common failure pattern across affected Exchange Online requests associated with authentication and protocol connectivity.
The problem eventually spread to other Microsoft 365 services, causing degraded or failed functions across services such as search, file access, synchronization, and content loading.
Microsoft initially attributed the root cause to an issue within a core authentication configuration used by multiple Microsoft 365 services.
