Microsoft Abandons Caledonia Data Center Amid Community Backlash
Microsoft has canceled plans for a massive data center in Caledonia, Wisconsin, following weeks of community opposition. The company cited 'community feedback' as the reason for scrapping the project, which was set to span 244 acres at County Line Road and State Highway 32.
Village Administrator Todd Willis confirmed that no formal application had been filed for the site, while Microsoft stated it would work with Caledonia and Racine County to find a location 'that better aligns with community priorities.'
Local resident Prescott Balch expressed his relief at the decision, stating he was 'ecstatic' after hearing the news. However, Village President Tom Weatherston expressed disappointment but remained hopeful that Microsoft could still choose Caledonia for a future project.
