Microsoft Abandons High-RAM Recommendations Amid Rising Prices
Microsoft has made a significant change to its Windows 11 recommendations regarding RAM. In recent months, Microsoft had advised users that 32GB of RAM was ideal for gaming and running heavily modded titles, describing it as the 'no-worries zone'.
However, the company has now deleted this recommendation, citing the sharp increase in DRAM memory prices this year. Instead of encouraging users to buy more RAM, Microsoft is focusing on reducing Windows 11's memory usage.
The change comes as the company introduces new Surface Pro and Laptop models with entry-level configurations featuring only 8GB of RAM. These devices do not meet Microsoft's own Copilot+ PC requirements, which demand at least 16GB of memory.
Microsoft is also updating its product messaging to describe 8GB of RAM as suitable for everyday tasks such as web browsing and streaming. The company plans to optimize Windows 11 for systems with 8GB or more by the end of 2026.
