Microsoft Aims for 38 Gigawatt Data Center Capacity by 2032

Microsoft plans to expand its data center capacity by more than triple, reaching 38 gigawatts by 2032, according to a report from Bloomberg News.

This expansion is part of Microsoft's efforts to power generative AI services such as ChatGPT and Copilot, which require massive amounts of computing power.

The company currently has 12 gigawatts of data center capacity, with only about 2 gigawatts centered on AI-specific chips. This share is expected to grow to a third of the planned 38 gigawatts.

Microsoft did not comment immediately on the report. However, the company's forecast for stronger-than-expected cloud growth in July suggests that its massive investments in data centers and computing infrastructure are paying off.
