Microsoft is planning to significantly expand its data centre capacity by 2032. According to Bloomberg, the company aims to more than triple its current capacity from around 12GW to about 38GW. This expansion would result in a substantial increase in AI-specific chip use, with one-third of the planned capacity dedicated to these chips.

The company has already added 1GW of data centre capacity during its fiscal fourth quarter and is on track to roughly double its overall capacity within two years. Microsoft also expects customer demand to continue exceeding available capacity.

The expansion is part of Microsoft's broader efforts to support the growing demand for cloud services, including AI computing. The company has developed a 2GW data centre campus in Pecos, Texas, which will be one of the largest single capacity additions in its history.
