Microsoft Aims to Triple Data Center Capacity Amidst Growing Demand
Microsoft is set to significantly expand its data center capacity in the coming years. According to a report by Bloomberg News, the tech giant plans to triple its global data center capacity to over 38 gigawatts by 2032. Currently, Microsoft's data centers operate at around 12 gigawatts.
The expansion plan includes both company-owned and leased facilities, but excludes computing capacity rented from cloud providers like Coreweave. This move is aimed at meeting growing demand for artificial intelligence and cloud services.
Microsoft has faced capacity constraints in the past, limiting its ability to take on AI and cloud business. The company's CEO, Satya Nadella, previously stated that they are 'bringing capacity online faster than ever' and finding ways to make existing hardware more efficient.
