A major agreement has been reached between Microsoft and the American Federation of Teachers (AFT) regarding the use of artificial intelligence in schools. The deal, which includes 10 enforceable protections, aims to ensure student and teacher data is kept private when using AI tools. According to Politico, one of the key provisions states that Microsoft cannot use teachers' or students' data to improve an AI model, unless it's for 'narrow safety and security' reasons.

American Federation of Teachers President Randi Weingarten praised the agreement, saying it sets a 'high bar for child privacy and AI safety.' She emphasized that this standard should be applied across the country, stating 'we'll extend this agreement to every school district across the country.'

The AFT has expressed concerns about Microsoft's use of data in the past. The union believes this agreement is a significant step forward in protecting students' online presence and ensuring their personal information remains secure.
