Microsoft Axes 32GB RAM Recommendation Amid Ongoing Memory Shortage

Microsoft has quietly removed its recommendation for 32GB of RAM on Windows 11, particularly for gamers who play demanding AAA titles or use heavy mods. The company previously suggested that 16GB was a practical starting point for most users and described 32GB as the ideal amount for those running the most demanding games.

The recommendations were removed from Microsoft's Windows Learning Center articles after they attracted criticism when memory prices surged, making 32GB kits much more expensive. Despite this change, Microsoft still sells its own devices with only 8GB of RAM as a base configuration, including the Surface Pro 12, Surface Laptop 13, and Surface Laptop for Business.

The removal of these recommendations comes as the ongoing memory shortage continues to drive RAM prices higher. While Microsoft hasn't commented on why the articles were taken down, it seems that the company is moving away from promoting 32GB as the recommended configuration for Windows users, even gamers.
