Microsoft Axes WMIC Utility Over Security Risks
Microsoft has been on a mission to clean up Windows 11 by removing legacy features and components, and its latest move is to eliminate the Windows Management Instrumentation Command-line (WMIC) utility.
While WMIC was not included in new installations of Windows 11, it could be added as an optional Feature on Demand. However, Microsoft has now removed this option, rendering WMIC unavailable for users who need it.
The decision to remove WMIC is due to the growing security risks associated with its use. Microsoft states that WMIC can be abused by attackers in various ways and that the benefits of retaining it no longer outweigh the risks.
