Microsoft Bribes Windows Users with Rewards to Switch to Edge

Microsoft has introduced a new incentive to encourage Windows users to make Edge their default browser. The company's loyalty program, Microsoft Rewards, is now being promoted in a popup that asks users to set Edge as their default browser. Users can earn points through activities such as Bing searches and Edge browsing, which they can redeem for various rewards.

The popup dialog opens with a message that says 'Earn rewards while you browse' and explains how users can get rewarded for their everyday browsing. It then provides two options: 'Confirm' and 'Set later.' Clicking 'Confirm' doesn't immediately change the default browser, but instead takes users to the Windows Settings page where they can set Edge as the default browser.

This is not a new strategy for Microsoft, which has previously used prompts and recommendations to persuade users to make Edge their default browser. However, this time the company has connected its Rewards program to the push to change the default browser, offering an incentive alongside the request.
