Microsoft Comms Chief Frank Shaw Steps Down After Nearly Three Decades

Frank Shaw, Microsoft's chief communications officer for nearly 17 years, is leaving the company after almost three decades. Shaw made the announcement through an internal memo to his team on Friday, September 11, stating he felt it was time to move on and try new things.

In a note to staff, Shaw expressed his gratitude to the team and the company, citing their accomplishments together during his tenure. He also thanked reporters and analysts for their collaboration over the years, joking about late-night calls and 'off the record no comments' he had given them.

Shaw's ties to Microsoft go back even further, as he began supporting the company's communications in 1997, long before he formally joined. During his time at Microsoft, Shaw guided the company's public messaging through multiple CEO transitions, major product launches, and key acquisitions.

Microsoft did not name a replacement for Shaw yet, stating they will look at candidates from both within and outside the company. Shaw has indicated that he does not plan to retire immediately and intends to take some time off before deciding on his next move.
