Microsoft Communications Chief Frank Shaw Leaves After Nearly Three Decades
Frank Shaw, Microsoft's long-time communications chief, is leaving the company after nearly three decades. He joined in 1997 when the company was primarily selling PC software like Windows 95 and Office 97.
In a memo to employees, Shaw said he decided it was time for new opportunities, citing discussions with Takeshi Numoto, Microsoft's executive vice president and chief marketing officer.
Throughout his tenure, Shaw played a central role in shaping Microsoft's external messaging. He oversaw communications around major product launches, executive appearances, corporate crises, and strategic shifts.
Shaw's exit comes during a period of significant change at Microsoft as CEO Satya Nadella accelerates the company's AI strategy around Copilot. Over the past two years, Microsoft has reorganised teams to support its AI ambitions, created a unified Copilot organisation, and seen several high-profile executive departures.
