Microsoft Communications Chief Frank Shaw to Depart at End of 2026

Frank Shaw, Microsoft's chief communications officer for nearly two decades, is set to leave the company at the end of 2026. In a memo shared with his team, Shaw stated that he has decided to move on and try new things after almost 29 years working with Microsoft. His departure will mark the end of an era for the executive who played a crucial role in shaping the company's public response during major leadership changes, acquisitions, and its transition towards cloud computing and artificial intelligence.

Shaw began supporting Microsoft communications in 1997 through Waggener Edstrom before joining the company. During his tenure, Microsoft underwent significant changes, including several Windows and Office generations, changes in chief executives, the building of Azure into a central business, and acquisitions like LinkedIn and Activision Blizzard. Shaw's role extended beyond press statements, as he was responsible for global communications strategy, product public relations, media and analyst relations, executive communications, employee communications, and agency management.

Microsoft has not named a successor, and Shaw has not announced another position. He will remain through the end of December while the company decides what comes next. The transition will be closely watched across Apple's competitive landscape, as large technology companies often speak through a small group of executives during periods of pressure.
