Microsoft Confirms Using Windows 11 to Promote Own Services Amid Browser Group Backlash

Microsoft has confirmed that it uses Windows 11 and other products to promote its own services, including Microsoft Edge, Bing, Copilot, Teams, and Xbox Game Pass. The Browser Choice Alliance, a group backed by Google and Opera, has called out Microsoft for restricting user choice and pushing users towards its own products.

In an annual SEC filing, Microsoft noted that it leverages Windows to fuel its cloud business and grow its share of the PC market. This is not a new practice, as other tech giants like Apple and Google also use their operating systems to promote their own services.

The Browser Choice Alliance claims that Microsoft's actions restrict user choice and undermine web freedom. They argue that by pushing users towards Microsoft products, the company unfairly tilts the playing field in its favor and away from fair competition and innovation.
