Microsoft Copilot Takes a Seat at the Apple CarPlay Table
Microsoft has expanded its Copilot AI chatbot to work within Apple's CarPlay system, making it the sixth major third-party app to do so. This move comes as Apple prepares to release iOS 27 on September 14th, which will add a dedicated Siri AI app to CarPlay.
The integration allows drivers to start and continue voice conversations while driving, with features including quick answers, meeting prep, email catch-up, and brainstorming by voice. Microsoft has confirmed that the feature requires a supported iPhone running iOS 26.4 or later, the latest version of the Copilot app, a vehicle that supports Apple CarPlay, and access to voice in Microsoft Copilot.
This development marks the latest step in the growing presence of AI chatbots within the automotive space. With Google's Gemini still lacking CarPlay support, the competition for drivers' attention is heating up.
