Microsoft Cuts AI Features, Merges Copilot Apps
Microsoft is making significant changes to its AI assistant Copilot, which will no longer exist as separate apps for consumer and business use. The company will merge both the consumer Copilot app and the business-oriented Microsoft 365 Copilot app into a single application.
The move also includes the removal of several lesser-used features, including Mico, an animated Clippy-like Copilot mascot. According to Microsoft, Mico will be removed as part of a wave of Copilot updates rolling out to users throughout August and will have a new home on the Learn Live platform, where it will work as a tutor for users.
Other features being cut include Group Chat, Podcasts, Deep Research, and experimental Copilot Labs. These AI tools will sunset on Aug. 18, with all related generated content removed by that date. Users are advised to export any group chats or podcasts they want to save before then.
