Microsoft Cuts Back on AI Token Spending Amid Rising Costs
Microsoft has introduced measures to limit its employees' use of AI due to rising costs. The company's Executive Vice President, Jay Parikh, emphasized the need for employees to be mindful of their token consumption while using GitHub Copilot. Each department at Microsoft will now have a set pool of tokens, with usage adjusted accordingly.
The decision has raised concerns among some employees, who see it as contradictory given Microsoft's significant investment in AI and previous subsidies for AI inference. However, the company is shifting its focus to optimize costs amidst increasing expenses.
