Microsoft Cuts Jobs at Halo Studios Despite Recent Multi-Platform Release
Microsoft's Xbox division has made another round of cuts at Halo Studios, which was involved in the development of the recently launched Halo: Campaign Evolved. This is despite the game's release on multiple platforms, including PC and PlayStation 5.
The affected employees include producer Nick Treitman, scrum master Paul Morris, and software engineer Caleb Lawrence. However, Microsoft has not confirmed the number of workers laid off or provided a clear explanation for the cuts.
This move follows Microsoft's broader restructuring efforts in the gaming industry, which includes plans to eliminate 3,200 gaming positions and divest or spin off several studios. The company is under pressure to control development costs and extract stronger returns from its major franchises.
Microsoft's latest financial results showed a decline in Xbox content and services revenue of 10% year over year in the June quarter. This contrasts with the company's overall revenue growth of 18%, as well as significant growth in its Azure business, which increased by 43%.
