Microsoft Cuts Unlimited Access to XBOX Cloud Gaming for Game Pass Subscribers
Microsoft has restricted unlimited access to its XBOX Cloud Gaming service for Game Pass subscribers. The change comes as the company seeks to improve efficiency in its gaming division, particularly in light of the current hardware and component crisis.
XBOX Cloud Gaming allows users to play games in the cloud, a feature that was launched in 2020. However, it has not been widely popular, with Microsoft stating that it pertains to only 4% of Game Pass users - approximately 1.2 million people.
Despite this low usage, the service's key metrics have grown in recent years. In 2025, users spent 45% more hours on XBOX Cloud Gaming compared to 2024.
Starting in November, subscribers will no longer have unlimited access to the cloud gaming service. Instead, they will receive a limited number of hours per month, depending on their subscription type. For instance, users with the most expensive plan will be limited to 15 hours per month.
