Microsoft Data Center May Join Expanded TIF District in Granger
The Microsoft data center in Granger, Indiana, may soon become part of an expanded tax increment finance district. The St. Joseph County Council will vote on whether to include the property in a TIF expansion as construction continues.
A tax increment finance district captures additional taxes paid by property owners in a designated area. In this case, that would mean Microsoft's taxes would be captured and go into a separate fund.
The funds from Microsoft would then be used to fund future development within the TIF district, including road improvements, a railroad overpass, and extension of water and sewer lines.
