Microsoft Ditches 32 GB RAM Recommendations Amid Memory Shortage
Microsoft has quietly removed its recommendations for buying computers with 32 GB of RAM from its website. The reason behind this change is the shortage and rising cost of memory systems, which is forcing tech giant Microsoft to sell basic laptops with only 8 GB of RAM.
In May of this year, Microsoft advised users that 16 GB of RAM was a reasonable minimum for comfortable operation in Windows 11, while 32 GB of RAM was an ideal choice 'with a margin for the future' for gamers and those who like fast systems. However, these posts from the Windows Learning Center website have now disappeared.
The company's move comes as there is a serious shortage and price spike in memory modules (DDR4 and DDR5) on the market. Manufacturers are bringing back cheaper configurations with 8 GB of RAM due to the high cost of adding more memory.
