Microsoft Ditches Drag Tray Feature in Windows 11 Over User Feedback
Microsoft has decided to remove the 'Drag Tray' feature from Windows 11 after user feedback deemed it intrusive and counterproductive. The feature, designed to make sharing files easier by floating a share tray at the top of the screen when dragging files, was turned on by default.
However, users reported that Drag Tray often got in the way of normal drag-and-drop actions, particularly for power users who rely on organizing their desktop and File Explorer folders. The feature could show up even when users didn't intend to share a file, causing frustration.
A replacement experience is being considered by Microsoft, but it won't be a revival of the current Drag Tray design. The company has been testing this change in the Windows Insider Program and will roll it out to all users in the coming weeks or months.
