Microsoft Draws AI Line in Code Conduct Draft

Microsoft has released a draft code of conduct for its internally developed AI models as the industry debates the extent to which frontier systems should be allowed to operate.

The framework, which spans 37 pages, emphasizes human authority over AI systems and rejects granting them legal personhood or encouraging them to imitate consciousness.

Investors are paying close attention to how tightly Microsoft can control its technology as spending continues to climb. The company is opening the framework for a six-week consultation before producing a revised version intended to influence model development in 2027 and beyond.

The existing models were not trained using the new code, and written rules alone cannot guarantee how an AI system will behave, leaving investors with questions about whether Microsoft can push the AI frontier without compromising commercial performance.
