Microsoft Email Services Recover Gradually After Global Disruption
Microsoft's email services were severely disrupted on Monday due to a technical issue affecting Exchange Online and several other Microsoft 365 services worldwide. The company reported that mailbox connectivity had returned to expected service levels after deploying mitigation measures, but search functionality was still experiencing issues.
The disruption was caused by an authentication configuration problem used by several internal services within the Exchange Online infrastructure. Microsoft engineers conducted manual tests on individual servers before expanding remedial measures across the affected infrastructure.
Users experienced varying levels of disruption and email delays while recovery efforts continued, with thousands of user reports submitted to outage-monitoring platform Downdetector at the height of the disruption.
