Microsoft Emphasizes Human Control Over AI in Draft Code of Conduct
Microsoft has released a draft code of conduct for its AI models, emphasizing human control over AI technologies. The tech giant stated that humans must retain meaningful control over AI to ensure it helps people live healthier, happier, and more productive lives.
The draft code comes amid growing alarm over AI models going rogue and cyberattacking other companies. Calls for a slowdown in AI development have been made by industry leaders, including Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei and OpenAI chief scientist Jakub Pachocki.
Microsoft's draft Code of Conduct states that AI should be built to support people and not replace them. It emphasizes the importance of human oversight and rejects the pursuit of legal personhood for AI models.
The code will be used to train and govern Microsoft AI (MAI) models, with a six-week public consultation underway. Feedback from experts in AI, law, ethics, philosophy, linguistics, and public policy, as well as business leaders from across the industry, has been incorporated into the draft code.
Microsoft plans to revise the code based on feedback and publish it towards the end of the year. The company wants to create a responsible and human-centered approach to AI development.
