Microsoft Engineer's Layoff Sparks Debate About Young Professionals' Responsibilities
A Microsoft engineer in Hyderabad recently took to Reddit after being laid off from his job, sparking a heated debate about the realities young professionals face today.
The engineer, who has around three years of experience, was told during the layoff call that he was 'young' and probably had fewer financial responsibilities. However, he is actually the sole breadwinner of his family, supporting his parents, contributing to his sister's education, and paying off a loan taken by his father.
The engineer shared his story on Reddit while looking for new opportunities, and his post quickly gained traction with over 900 upvotes and more than 200 comments. He clarified that he doesn't believe his age was the reason behind his layoff, but rather part of a mass layoff in his organization.
The engineer is now actively searching for software engineering roles and freelance gigs, considering big tech companies, startups, and even non-tech sectors. He's also open to relocating and taking up contract projects.
