Microsoft Exchange Online Outage Hits Business Email Users
Microsoft is currently investigating an outage of its Exchange Online service that has left some customers unable to send or receive emails, or access their accounts. The issue began on August 31 after users reported problems with Outlook on social media and administrator forums.
A shared failure pattern involving authentication and protocol connectivity was identified by engineers reviewing service telemetry. While the company has yet to determine which regions are affected, it has narrowed down its investigation to a common cause connected to these two areas.
Exchange Online supports business email for Microsoft 365 customers, making disruptions particularly impactful on organizations that rely heavily on Outlook for communication. The outage can also hinder IT administrators' ability to manage Exchange while an incident is ongoing.
