Microsoft Exchange Online Suffers Widespread Outage

Microsoft's Exchange Online service experienced widespread issues on Monday afternoon as thousands of customers reported problems accessing their email. Initially, users took to social media and platforms like DownDetector to report problems with Microsoft Outlook.

The issue appears to be more extensive than initially thought, affecting not only Exchange Online but also other Microsoft 365 business services such as OneDrive for Business, SharePoint Online, and Microsoft Teams.

According to Microsoft's status page, the root cause of the outage is an 'issue within a core authentication configuration used by multiple Microsoft 365 services.' The company is actively testing a remediation strategy to restore services as quickly as possible.
