The trial of Mario Fernandez Saldana, accused of hiring a hitman to kill Microsoft design manager Jared Bridegan in front of his children, has begun in Jacksonville, Florida.

Bridegan was shot and killed on February 16, 2022, in Jacksonville Beach. He had just dropped off his twin children with their mother, Shanna Gardner, who is also charged in the case.

Prosecutors describe the killing as a 'targeted ambush' that followed years of conflict between Bridegan and Gardner over their divorce and how to raise their children.

Defense attorney James Hill argued that Fernandez Saldana had no motive or desire to kill Bridegan, but prosecutors claim he hired Henry Tenon, who was paid $10,000 after the murder.
