Microsoft Expands AD FS Support for Exchange Server

Microsoft has expanded Outlook client support for AD FS Modern Authentication in Exchange Server Subscription Edition. This update gives organizations an OAuth-based alternative to legacy authentication for on-premises email environments.

The change extends AD FS Modern Authentication support to additional Outlook configurations, including iOS and Android. Microsoft has been expanding the authentication capabilities of Exchange Server Subscription Edition as customers modernize security while retaining Exchange infrastructure in their own environments.

AD FS Modern Authentication allows Outlook clients to authenticate through Active Directory Federation Services and obtain OAuth tokens rather than repeatedly transmitting user credentials to Exchange. This architecture can help organizations apply stronger authentication policies while maintaining an on-premises deployment model.
