Microsoft Expands Windows 11 Memory Integrity Feature to More PCs
Microsoft is expanding its Windows 11 Memory Integrity feature to more PCs starting in October. The security feature, which moves kernel-mode code-integrity checks into an isolated environment, will be automatically enabled on a broader range of eligible devices through quality updates.
The expansion comes after the company made it a default security feature on compatible new installations with Windows 11. However, PC gamers have long complained that Memory Integrity and Virtual Machine Platform can affect gaming performance on some systems, leading many to disable them.
Microsoft acknowledges this trade-off, advising gamers who prioritize performance to temporarily disable these protections while playing. The company notes that Memory Integrity performs better on newer processors with hardware features designed to accelerate isolation, but older CPUs relying on software emulation can experience a larger performance hit.
