Microsoft Fixes Windows 11 Crash Issue Caused by Peripherals
Microsoft has issued a permanent fix for a known issue that causes system crashes and gaming issues on Windows 11 devices. The problem, which affects games such as ARC Raiders, MARVEL Tōkon: Fighting Souls, and The Finals, was initially thought to be related to the August 2026 updates. However, Microsoft later attributed it to peripherals with built-in RGB lighting.
The company confirmed that the inpoutx64.sys driver is the cause of these issues and has begun rolling out a fix that disables it on affected devices. The resolution blocks the driver from loading and displays a message window with information about the disablement. This should allow games to launch normally.
The fix started propagating on August 26, 2026, at 6 PM PT, and may take up to 24 hours to reach all affected devices. It will also be included in the September 2026 Windows security updates and future releases.
