Microsoft Guide Maps Five SaaS Monetization Questions to Session Data
Microsoft recently published a guide on how software-as-a-service teams can use its free behavioral analytics product, Clarity, to understand monetization behavior. The guide is not a new feature release, but rather a documentation of best practices for using existing features to analyze user behavior.
The guide focuses on five objectives: identifying where high-intent users drop off, understanding the behaviors that lead to conversion, finding friction in self-service upgrade experiences, connecting revenue outcomes with product usage patterns, and combining customer feedback with behavioral data.
According to the guide, a user who reaches a pricing page or begins an upgrade flow has already demonstrated intent, so abandonment at that stage cannot be read as absence of interest. The question is what happened before they left?
The guide proposes replacing exit counts with investigation tools such as funnels, session recordings, rage clicks, dead clicks, JavaScript errors, and advanced filtering to identify the step where users leave and the actions preceding abandonment.
