Microsoft Hikes Windows 11 Fees for OEMs, Passing Costs to Consumers

Microsoft has increased its Windows 11 license fees for Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs), effective immediately. The price hike ranges between 7% and 10%, which is unusually high compared to previous years' single-digit percentage increases.

The largest OEMs, including Dell, Asus, and HP, will see their fees increased by around 7%, while smaller manufacturers may face double-digit percentage hikes. This move is expected to be passed on to consumers, making PCs slightly more expensive.

Despite the price increase, the standard licensing fees for end-users remain unchanged. Windows 11 Home will continue to cost $139, and the Pro version will still be priced at $199. Microsoft's decision to raise license fees is seen by some as an effort to improve the user experience of Windows 11, which has faced criticism in recent times.
