Microsoft Objects to We Energies Deal Over Data Center Costs

Microsoft has objected to an agreement between We Energies and the Wisconsin Public Service Commission over costs related to its $20.6 billion in data center projects in the state.

The company claims it was not involved in negotiations for the agreement, which it says does not go far enough to ensure consumers do not pay for costs associated with bringing power to Microsoft's facilities.

Microosft said the agreement 'predictably contain significant deficiencies, errors, contradictions and inconsistencies' and that a settlement judge would be the best way to resolve the issues.

The company is managing data centers in Port Washington and Racine County, which are estimated to lead to $4 billion in new natural gas projects and $2 billion in new power lines in Wisconsin and Michigan's Upper Peninsula.
