Microsoft Outlook Outage Hits Thousands of Users Worldwide
Microsoft is working to resolve a widespread outage affecting its Outlook service, which has impacted thousands of users worldwide.
The issue began around 11:30 AM ET on September 1, 2026, with over 5,000 complaints reported within the next two hours, according to Downdetector's outage detection website.
Microsoft confirmed that a misconfiguration issue was preventing authentication components from deploying as expected to a portion of its infrastructure, and the company is exploring every available avenue to safely restore the components.
The outage has caused email delays and failures, authentication issues, and other problems for users relying on Microsoft's Exchange Online Service, which provides cloud-hosted business email, calendar, contacts, and tasks.
Microsoft stated that it expects users to experience varying degrees of impact and mail delays while the issue is fully resolved.
