Microsoft Overhauls Responsible AI Standard Amid Growing AI Capabilities
Microsoft has re-engineered its Responsible AI Standard to better address the evolving landscape of artificial intelligence. The firm's 2026 Responsible AI Transparency Report highlights the growing capabilities of AI systems, which are becoming increasingly capable of executing multi-step actions.
This shift requires a more dynamic approach to governance, according to Microsoft. To adapt to this change, the company has redesigned its Responsible AI Standard to be 'more adaptive' to the evolving AI technology stack and its role in developing or deploying AI products.
The revised standard is structured by reference to different components of the tech stack, models, platform services, and applications, with 'core requirements' that always apply. Microsoft has also introduced a new Deployer Chapter covering the use of third-party AI applications within the company.
