Microsoft Overhauls Windows 11 Context Menus for Faster, Simpler Experience
Microsoft has acknowledged that its Windows 11 context menus are sluggish and cluttered. In response, the company is rolling out major improvements to the right-click experience in File Explorer and on the desktop.
The updated menu system is designed to be faster, simpler, and more customizable. According to Microsoft engineer Michael Novak, 'the menu became cluttered and sluggish, and we recognized the need to dramatically reduce the time between right-clicking and having a menu that’s fully ready to use.'
The new design reduces top-level clutter, keeps commonly used actions easy to access, and introduces a new Settings experience that gives users more control over what appears in the menu.
Users can now customize the context menus by enabling or disabling actions and showing or hiding app extensions from third-party apps. The company is also allowing users to restore the Windows 10 context menu layout within the modern Windows 11 context menu system.
