Microsoft Patches Record-Breaking 972 Vulnerabilities

Microsoft has released its latest batch of patches, fixing a record-breaking 972 vulnerabilities in Windows and other products. Of these, 112 are rated critical, which means they could potentially allow attackers to gain control over affected systems.

This is the third time this year that Microsoft has set a new record for the number of patched vulnerabilities, following on from 570 in July and 620 in August. The company's patch release is part of a larger trend of increasing numbers of vulnerabilities being discovered and addressed by software companies.

According to Dustin Childs, a researcher at the Zero Day Initiative, this is becoming the 'new normal' for the industry. He notes that while it's good that Microsoft is able to patch bugs at such a high rate, AI-assisted vulnerability discovery shows no signs of slowing down.
